A playlist add is not a career. It is a weather event. Useful when it happens, gone when the algorithm moves on. Independent labels exist for the other job: putting records next to each other until they mean something.
That is the difference between a viral loop and a catalogue. XL’s 2025–2026 run — Break Through, A New Dawn, the singles around them — only works as a body of work. RickyP’s Engage / Black Rose / Tip Toe sequence is the same idea on a faster cycle. You hear one, you want the next. Playlists rarely do that on purpose.
We still want the streams. Spotify and Apple Music are how most people find us. The label’s job is to make sure the page they land on looks like a label: artwork, artist pages, dates, a roster. If the only home for your music is a DSP profile with no context, you are renting attention.
Support independents by playing the records, not just saving them. Start at Releases.
